Donald Trump has never been known for holding back, and that extends to sharing details about his youngest son's personal life that most parents might keep to themselves.
Speaking on Patrick Bet-David's PBD Podcast, Trump was asked whether Barron, now 20, is "good with the ladies" at university. The president's response was characteristically direct and completely unfiltered.
Trump praised his son enthusiastically, describing him as very smart, a good student and a genuinely nice person who gets along well with people. He acknowledged that Barron is widely considered good-looking, agreeing readily when the host suggested as much.
But then he offered the confession that raised eyebrows.
"I don't think he's had a girlfriend yet," Trump said. "I don't think so. He doesn't mind being alone."
Barron is currently studying at New York University's Stern School of Business, a choice that raised some eyebrows given that his father attended the rival Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Trump, to his credit, expressed no disappointment about the decision, describing Stern as a great school and praising Barron's choice.
"He was accepted to a lot of colleges," Trump said. "He's a very smart guy. He's a very high aptitude child, but he's no longer a child. He's just passed into something beyond child-dom. He's doing great."
Melania Trump has also spoken warmly about Barron's university experience, saying on Fox News that he loves his classes and professors and is thriving back in New York City, where he grew up before the family moved to the White House and later Florida.
Barron is the only child of Donald and Melania and the youngest of Trump's five children. He also has Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric from his marriage to the late Ivana Trump, and daughter Tiffany from his relationship with Marla Maples.
Whether Barron appreciates his father's candour about his dating life is, perhaps wisely, not something Trump appears to have addressed.
