Lionel Richie, 77, was reportedly admitted to intensive care shortly after performing in St Louis, Missouri, on 29 August, marking his second hospitalization of the summer.

What happened and how serious it is

According to reports, Richie's latest hospital visit was described as a precautionary measure, with sources citing possible slight dehydration as a factor. Witnesses at the St Louis show said Richie requested a chair so he could sit down during the concert's closing number, "All Night Long." As of now, he has a scheduled gap in his tour before his next stop in San Francisco on 26 September, and representatives have not yet issued further comment.

A second scare this summer

This follows an earlier hospitalization in June, after Richie experienced a dizzy spell during a show in St Paul, Minnesota. Footage from that performance showed him signalling to finish the song "Dancing on the Ceiling" while seated, later telling the audience he'd learned over his career that if you're feeling dizzy or off, it's best to sit down, joking that it was the first time in the song's history he'd performed it that way.

Fans rally in support

Richie was last active on social media days before the latest hospitalization, sharing a tribute to the late Dolly Parton following her death. Since news of his hospital stay broke, fans have flooded social media with messages of support, with many expressing hope for a full and speedy recovery.
