Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife centres on the life and death of Mica Miller, and her marriage to South Carolina pastor John-Paul "JP" Miller. Mica was his second wife of three, and the documentary has drawn renewed attention to his full marital history.
Ali Williams — his first wife
Ali Williams was JP's first wife, married to him from around 2000 to 2015. The couple share four children. JP is alleged to have begun an affair with Mica in 2015, and Ali officially divorced him that September, moving away from Solid Rock Church as JP pursued his relationship with Mica.
Following Mica's death, Ali reportedly filed for sole custody of her children with JP. According to a filing obtained by People, she accused him of increasingly unstable behaviour and claimed he used their custody arrangement to harass her, alleging he failed to provide a safe environment during visitation and exposed their children to domestic conflict. Ali is now said to live privately, away from public attention.
Mica Miller — his second wife
Mica first met JP at age 13, when he was already a pastor, 15 years her senior, and a father of five. He officiated her first marriage before the two began an affair three years later. Both divorced their respective spouses, and JP and Mica married in 2017.
Their marriage has since been described by Mica's family and friends as marked by coercive control and abuse. Mica filed for divorce and was found dead two days later, having called 911 beforehand indicating her intention to take her own life. The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a suicide by gunshot wound, a conclusion her family has publicly disputed, arguing the scene had been staged.
Suzie Skinner — his current wife
JP is now married to Suzie Skinner, a former member of Solid Rock Church. Before marrying JP, Suzie was married to Chris Skinner, a US military veteran who became quadriplegic following an accident; Suzie worked as his physical therapist during their marriage. Chris died in an accidental drowning in 2021.
During JP's marriage to Mica, Mica reportedly discovered an alleged affair between JP and Suzie and confronted him, after which he told her he would end the relationship. JP and Suzie married on 1 June 2025. They are reportedly still together, living in the Myrtle Beach area, where JP continues preaching to a smaller congregation of around 15 to 20 people at pop-up locations, with Suzie now involved in leading worship alongside him.
