Federal investigators have responded to speculation about a possible connection between President Donald Trump and the devastating Learjet crash in Florida that killed all nine people on board.

The Bombardier Learjet 60 was travelling from Austin, Texas, towards the Bahamas when it suddenly lost altitude and crashed into a residential neighbourhood in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, on Sunday, November 1.

The aircraft reportedly descended from approximately 35,000 feet to the ground in just 76 seconds, leaving a large crater and triggering a fireball.

Among those killed were a family with two young children, their travelling companions and both members of the flight crew.

As investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the disaster, questions emerged about whether the aircraft's proximity to a location associated with the president could have played a role.

Now, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has directly addressed the speculation while revealing important new evidence recovered from the aircraft.

What is the alleged connection between Donald Trump and the Learjet crash?

The speculation centred on the crash site's proximity to Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump's private residence and club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Learjet crashed less than 10 miles from the property, prompting questions about whether presidential security operations in the surrounding area could have had any involvement in the incident.

Some of the discussion focused on whether security measures associated with protecting the president, including possible Secret Service activity, might have affected the aircraft.

However, there has been no verified evidence establishing that any presidential security operation interfered with the Learjet's flight.

The theory arose from the geographical proximity of the crash site to Mar-a-Lago, rather than from confirmed evidence of interference.

Investigators have now addressed those questions publicly.

What did the NTSB say about the Trump connection?

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, November 3, NTSB officials said there was no evidence connecting the aircraft's crash to security operations at Mar-a-Lago.

Officials indicated that the location of the accident near Trump's property appeared to be coincidental.

The NTSB also explained that investigators had not identified evidence suggesting presidential security measures were responsible for the aircraft's loss of control.

When questions arose about whether the Secret Service had been contacted, an NTSB official said they were not aware of any such communication.

Investigators may contact other government agencies during aviation accident inquiries, but that does not mean those agencies are suspected of causing an incident.

The NTSB stressed that determining the actual cause of the crash would require further examination of the available evidence.

For now, the agency's position is that there is no established connection between the accident and President Trump or security operations around his residence.

Investigators discover important aircraft components miles from crash site

While addressing the speculation, investigators also announced a potentially significant development in their examination of the wreckage.

According to the NTSB, most of the Learjet's left elevator was recovered in three separate pieces between approximately 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the main impact site.

The elevator is a movable surface located on the aircraft's tail that helps control the movement of its nose.

Its discovery so far from the crash site suggests that parts of the aircraft separated before the jet struck the ground.

However, investigators have not yet determined whether that separation contributed to the aircraft losing control or happened because the jet was already experiencing extreme aerodynamic forces.

NTSB official Thomas B. Chapman explained that the discovery confirmed important components had detached before impact.

He said further analysis would be needed to understand what the separation meant for the sequence of events leading to the disaster.

The discovery gives investigators physical evidence to examine as they work to reconstruct the aircraft's final moments.

What happened during the Learjet's final 76 seconds?

The private jet had been travelling at approximately 35,000 feet before entering a rapid descent that ended in catastrophe.

According to reports of air traffic control communications, the crew encountered challenging weather conditions before the aircraft began losing altitude.

The pilots reportedly described icing and turbulence as they attempted to manage the emergency.

During the descent, the aircraft's vertical speed reached an extraordinarily high rate, indicating that the crew was facing a severe loss-of-control situation.

Reports of the final radio communications suggest that the pilots were aware of the rapidly approaching ground and the seriousness of their predicament.

The aircraft ultimately crashed near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North in Greenacres.

The impact caused extensive damage to the road and surrounding area, although no deaths were reported on the ground.

Why is the missing elevator important?

An aircraft's elevators are essential flight-control surfaces that allow pilots to adjust pitch.

When a pilot moves the control column, the elevators help change the aircraft's nose-up or nose-down attitude.

If a significant portion of an elevator separates during flight, it can affect the aircraft's handling characteristics and make controlling its flight path more difficult.

However, the significance of such damage depends on several factors, including the aircraft's speed, aerodynamic condition and the sequence in which the damage occurred.

Investigators must determine whether the component separated before or after the aircraft began experiencing severe difficulties.

They will also examine whether aerodynamic forces during the rapid descent could have caused structural damage.

The NTSB has not concluded that the elevator separation caused the crash.

Could severe weather have contributed to the disaster?

Weather conditions are among the factors investigators are examining.

Reports indicate that the aircraft encountered icing and turbulence before its rapid descent.

Ice accumulation can interfere with airflow around an aircraft's wings and other surfaces, potentially affecting lift, drag and handling.

Severe turbulence can also place additional demands on an aircraft and its crew.

However, properly equipped business jets can operate in certain icing conditions within their approved limitations.

Investigators will need to establish the precise conditions encountered by the Learjet, whether its systems were operating correctly and what actions the crew took.

At this stage, neither weather nor mechanical failure has been officially identified as the cause.

Who were the nine people killed in the crash?

The disaster claimed the lives of seven passengers and two crew members.

Among the passengers were entrepreneur Adam Robinson, 44, his wife Helen Sharp and their children Emma, four, and Charlie, two.

The family was accompanied by their nanny, identified in the reporting as Anita Maria Apellido Cetina, and two friends, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

The aircraft's captain was 55-year-old Jeffrey Gregory, while the co-pilot was 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras.

Filgueiras had shared parts of her aviation journey on social media, and news of her death prompted tributes to the young pilot.

The tragedy also affected the surrounding community, with emergency responders securing the crash site and evacuating nearby residents.

What happens next in the NTSB investigation?

The NTSB is continuing to examine the circumstances of the accident, including the recovered aircraft components, available flight information and the conditions experienced during the journey.

Investigators are expected to review maintenance records, crew qualifications, weather reports and any relevant communications.

They will also assess the aircraft's structural condition and attempt to establish when the recovered elevator sections separated.

Further excavation of the impact crater may help recover additional components and evidence.

The agency is expected to issue a preliminary report containing factual information gathered during the early investigation, while a final probable-cause determination could take considerably longer.

Although speculation about a connection to President Trump has attracted attention, investigators have said there is no evidence linking the crash to security operations at Mar-a-Lago.

Instead, the focus remains on reconstructing the aircraft's final moments and understanding why it experienced such a catastrophic descent.

Until the investigation is complete, the precise cause of the tragedy remains unknown.
