A GoFundMe supporting Lindsay Clancy's parents, Mike and Paula Musgrove, has raised over $1.1 million in the days following the mistrial declared in her triple-murder trial.
Why the fundraiser was set up
The page was initially created in August by organiser Brandee Mulligan, who described the Musgroves as having spent years travelling back and forth, staying in hotels, and ultimately relocating from Connecticut to Massachusetts to remain close to their daughter throughout the legal process. Mulligan wrote that their lives had largely been put on hold as they continued showing up for Lindsay during what she called an unimaginable situation.
How much has been raised
The fundraiser initially had a goal of $1 million, which supporters pushed past in the hours following Friday's mistrial. Mulligan raised the goal to $3 million the same day, citing the likelihood of an extended process, including a potential retrial, and the ongoing costs the Musgroves face while continuing to support their daughter. As of publication, the fundraiser has raised over $1.175 million, including a single $5,000 donation from an anonymous donor.
Copycat fundraisers appearing online
The attention around the case has also led to a number of unrelated fundraisers appearing on GoFundMe, both supporting and opposing Clancy, seemingly capitalising on public interest in the mistrial. GoFundMe told CT Insider it is actively monitoring and reviewing all Clancy-related fundraisers, and will remove any found to violate its terms of service.
What comes next
Mulligan noted that once court proceedings eventually conclude, the Musgroves will still need to return to their own lives, facing bills, lost savings, and the broader cost of the years spent prioritising their daughter's case. She said the fundraiser began from a simple idea: giving thousands of strangers a way to help carry even a small part of that burden.
