A bride has been urged to divorce her new husband after sharing a video of him making a mortifying mistake while the couple exchanged vows at their wedding.
The mistake
Emma, a newlywed from Brisbane, Australia, shared the clip on TikTok. In the video, her husband can be heard calling her "Emily Grace Pomphrey" during his vows, prompting her to interject with "Emma!" before he quickly repeats the correct name. It turns out Emily is actually the name of her sister. Emma captioned the video: "Plot twist: it's my sisters name. Still not over being called Emily at the altar." The couple and their guests were seen laughing about it in the clip.
How viewers reacted
Many commenters were far less amused. One wrote: "I'm sorry I would literally had to end this right then and there, you just said the wrong name on our wedding day???" Another simply said: "Divorce him immediately." Others added: "Id stop the wedding immediately," "This would put me in such a bad mood for the rest of the wedding," and "Bring me back for the divorce." Plenty of people compared it to the famous scene in Friends where Ross says Rachel's name at the altar while marrying Emily.
Others came to his defence
Some viewers took a kinder view. One suggested the person leading the vows may have said Emily and he simply repeated it without thinking, and Emma agreed that is what her husband believes too, noting the celebrant did have an accent. Another commenter said they would be so anxious about saying the wrong name at their own wedding that they would probably end up doing it, adding that they hate public speaking and would have to "preface my vows with 'please forgive me for whatever I say or do next bc I am AWKWARD in front of crowds'." One person also pointed out that it is unusual for siblings to be named Emma and Emily.
The bride's response
Emma defended her husband, writing: "If it was a random name I would have QUESTIONS. My sister is my best friend. I have no concerns."
