Andrew Garfield has explained why he hasn't yet reached out to Tom Holland to congratulate him on the massive success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has made $2.3 billion at the box office to become the third highest-grossing film ever made.
His reasoning
Speaking to Variety while promoting his own upcoming Robin Hood film, Garfield explained that he didn't want to come across as insincere by praising a film he hadn't actually seen yet. He said he plans to send Holland a message once he's watched both Brand New Day and Holland's other recent film, The Odyssey, adding that he's genuinely looking forward to seeing both.
Their shared Spider-Man history
Garfield played Spider-Man across two films starting in 2012, before Holland took over the role as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The pair, along with original Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire, famously teamed up in 2021's multiverse-spanning No Way Home.
Addressing Avengers: Doomsday rumours
Garfield was also asked whether he'd be returning as Spider-Man once again for Avengers: Doomsday, given his history of previously denying involvement in No Way Home ahead of its release under contractual obligation. This time, he said plainly that he isn't part of the upcoming film, adding that people would find out one way or another in due course.
