Miley Cyrus has broken her silence following weeks of speculation over an apparent rebrand, confirming a new album and a pair of live shows to mark the start of her next era.
The name change
Cyrus dropped her surname across her online presence over the weekend, updating her website from mileycyrus.com to mileyofficial.com and switching her social media handles, including Instagram, to simply "miley."
What she announced
Confirming the reason behind the rebrand, Cyrus revealed her tenth studio album, titled BASS PERSUADES, will be released on 18 September. Sharing a video of herself performing on guitar, she wrote that music has the power to hold onto people through every part of life, from heartache to joy, and explained that the title reflects that full emotional range for her. She thanked fans for being part of her journey and said she hoped they'd love the album.
She'll follow the release with two live performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 16 and 18 October, a venue she described as her favourite place to experience music, despite never having performed there herself before now. She called the shows a way of bringing the performance home, given her long-standing connection to LA.
Fan reaction
The announcement has generated excitement among fans, with some joking they'd expected the album to be self-titled "Miley" instead, and others already pushing for a full world tour, including stops in Europe, to follow the Hollywood Bowl shows. It's not yet confirmed whether a single will be released ahead of the album.
