Samsung didn't hold back after Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the Duo, at its annual showcase this week, with the company's social media team live-reacting throughout the event.
What Apple announced
The iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch display, around 80% larger than the standard iPhone 18 Pro, and supports Apple Pencil use, a feature previously limited to iPads. It also allows split-screen use for running two apps, or comparing two versions of the same website, side by side. Prices start at $1,999. The device was announced at Apple's showcase at the Steve Jobs Theatre, marking new CEO John Ternus' first major keynote since taking over from Tim Cook earlier this month.
Samsung's response
As the Duo was revealed, Samsung's team posted: "It's feeling very familiar. Is this a Sims sequel..." They followed up with: "I'm so sorry, @DuoLingo. They copied us too #Solidarity," and later added: "Let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers." Responding to Apple's suggestion that the Duo could double as a bedside alarm clock, Samsung wrote: "Not the bed side clock. It's giving groundhog day."
Other announcements from the event
Alongside the Duo, Apple also unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, starting at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively, featuring improved battery life, camera capabilities including new "cinematic effects" and smart focus tracking, and faster charging. Apple also introduced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4, both featuring a new Health Sensing System and S11 chip, alongside an updated Health app with new readiness and longevity scoring features, and a refreshed AirPods 5 lineup with improved noise cancellation.
