A Florida mother has been arrested on charges of sexual activity involving animals after her husband allegedly discovered footage of her on hidden security cameras he had installed inside their home to investigate disappearing money.
Malia Nummerdor, 38, was charged after her husband Erik reported the incident to police and provided investigators with access to the footage. He had originally set up two cameras inside the family home in Port Charlotte after money began disappearing from a coin jar. While reviewing recordings from a bedroom camera, he allegedly discovered footage of his wife with the family dog.
Erik subsequently shared his allegations publicly on Facebook, claiming to have photo and video evidence, before reporting the matter to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and handing over the laptop containing the footage.
According to the arrest report, the security video allegedly showed Nummerdor in a position consistent with sexual activity with the dog. The bedroom camera was described as visible to household members, displaying a blinking red light, and recording continuously on a rolling basis.
Police interviewed Nummerdor on September 15. When questioned about the footage, her response was far from a clear denial.
According to officials, she acknowledged she was the person shown in the security video with the dog, but denied that anything had happened. She was unable to provide investigators with a consistent explanation for what the footage appeared to show.
Nummerdor was booked into Charlotte County Jail. Her mugshot, in which she is visibly smiling, drew a specific response from Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell when he addressed the case publicly.
"There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words," Prummell said. "This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior. No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct."
He added: "And then to smile in the mugshot? I don't know what there is to smile about when you've been arrested for something as disgusting as this."
Sexual activity involving animals is a second-degree felony under Florida law. Nummerdor remains in custody at Charlotte County Jail with bond set at $35,000.
