A Florida mother has been charged with incest after admitting to police that she had been having sex with her own son since he was 18 years old, in a case that only came to light because she called the police on him herself.
Christina Clemens, 46, called officers to her home last month to report her son Shane, 22, for domestic violence, claiming he had struck her. Shane was arrested. Then, reportedly furious about being taken in after his mother made the call, he told deputies everything.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described what happened next in a video posted to social media. "So he got mad because she called and we arrested him for hitting mama," Judd said. "And then he said, 'Well, I'll tell you what, I've been having sex with my mama since I was 18 years old.'"
Investigators then questioned Christina about the allegations. When Sheriff Judd asked her directly whether she had been sleeping with her son, her response was as blunt as it was disturbing.
"Only about 100 times," she told him. "I didn't stutter."
The relationship had been kept entirely secret from Christina's longtime husband, who told police he had been happily married and had no knowledge of what had been going on. He did, however, tell investigators that he had noticed something that had given him pause.
"I think I am a little suspicious that they used to go in the master bedroom and lock the door," he said.
"What else can you say?" the sheriff responded, describing the situation as a nasty affair.
Christina was charged and held on a $5,250 bond before being released on September 4. Shane has been charged with one count of incest and one count of domestic violence battery and remains in custody without bond.
