Erik Nummerdor has spoken out in detail about how he came to discover footage that led to the arrest of his wife Malia on charges of sexual activity involving animals, as new details emerge about what the recordings allegedly show and the counter-allegations she has made against him.
Erik told investigators he had installed two security cameras inside the family home in Port Charlotte, Florida, after money began disappearing from a coin container. While reviewing footage from a camera in the bedroom, he claims he discovered a recording involving his estranged wife, 38, and the couple's dog, named Ranger.
According to the arrest affidavit, the bedroom camera was visible to all household members, displayed a blinking red light and recorded continuously on rolling intervals. Erik provided investigators with screenshots and consented to handing over a laptop containing the full surveillance files.
The detective who reviewed the footage wrote in the affidavit: "I observed an adult female, identified by Erik as Malia, nude from the waist down, positioned with the dog in a manner consistent with sexual activity."
Before reporting the matter to police, Erik had posted his allegations publicly on Facebook on September 11, claiming he had photographic and video evidence. Investigators reviewed his posts and the comments beneath them as part of the case.
When police interviewed Malia on September 15, she appeared impaired and acknowledged being under the influence of drugs and alcohol. She admitted she was the person shown in the footage with the dog but denied any sexual contact had taken place. Investigators noted she was unable to provide a consistent explanation for what the footage appeared to show.
Malia also made counter-allegations against her husband, claiming he had installed the cameras without her knowledge, accessed her social media accounts to post the images, and that the recordings dated from 2024 and had previously been used as a threat against her.
Calls to a number listed for Erik were not immediately returned.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell addressed the case publicly, describing it as one of the rare moments in his career that had left him at a loss for words, and singling out Malia's smiling mugshot as an additional source of disbelief.
"No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct," he said. "And then to smile in the mugshot? I don't know what there is to smile about when you've been arrested for something as disgusting as this."
Malia remains in custody at Charlotte County Jail with bond set at $35,000.
