Donald Trump took to Truth Social last year to announce he was giving "serious consideration" to revoking Rosie O'Donnell's American citizenship, describing her as "a threat to humanity" and suggesting she should stay in Ireland where she currently lives. O'Donnell, who relocated to Ireland two years ago and is seeking citizenship through her grandparents' heritage, did not let it go quietly.
The feud between the two stretches back to 2006, when O'Donnell mocked Trump's bankruptcies and his handling of the Miss USA pageant while co-hosting The View. Trump called her "disgusting" on television, and the bad blood has never cooled. During his 2016 presidential campaign debate against Hillary Clinton, he defended his past comments about O'Donnell by saying she deserved everything he said and that nobody felt sorry for her.
The latest chapter came when Trump's Truth Social post prompted O'Donnell to post a photograph of the president alongside Jeffrey Epstein on Instagram, accompanied by a lengthy statement that pulled no punches. She addressed her political exile, her life in Ireland, her child, her art and her values, contrasting each against what she described as Trump's cruelty, dishonesty and fear.
She also made a return to American late-night television this week, guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! during Kimmel's summer hiatus. In her opening monologue she told the audience to "buckle up," cracked jokes about fleeing the US after reading Project 2025, and at one point stared directly into the camera to address the White House: "Hi! I know you're watching!"
Speaking on Irish radio, she said: "I am very proud to be opposed to every single thing he says and does and represents."
Her Instagram response concluded with a two-word reference to the cruel child-king from Game of Thrones. Addressing Trump directly, she wrote: "You want to revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan."
