Taylor Swift will take Travis Kelce's surname when the couple marry, becoming Taylor Kelce in her personal life while continuing to be known professionally by the name that has made her one of the biggest artists in history, according to insiders who spoke to the Daily Mail.
The decision reflects what sources describe as Swift's traditional approach to marriage. One insider said she views taking Kelce's last name as "a meaningful step," particularly because it would be the family name shared with any future children. Another source compared the arrangement to Jennifer Aniston's decision to legally become Jennifer Pitt following her marriage to Brad Pitt, while continuing to work under her maiden name.
"Professionally, she'll always be Taylor Swift," one source said. "The name has become one of the biggest brands in entertainment, and there's really no reason to change that." The couple are also said to have ruled out hyphenating their names.
The wedding is widely expected to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York over the Fourth of July weekend, with around 1,000 guests. New York City's mayor's office confirmed a permit was filed in early June requesting road closures around the venue from July 2 to July 4, and several of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates were reported to have booked hotels in the area for the same period.
NFL star George Kittle, who is attending with his wife Claire, revealed one notable rule the couple have set: no gifts. "They said absolutely no gifts," he told reporters, before admitting he plans to bring Kelce an old coin anyway as a personal gesture.
Some guests have reportedly been less happy with another decision. Swift is said to have limited plus-ones for a number of attendees, a move that has caused frustration among some of her celebrity invitees. One unnamed guest told the Daily Mail they were considering skipping the wedding entirely as a result, noting the location will only be revealed to guests on the morning of the ceremony for security reasons.
Swift pushed back publicly on speculation that marriage would affect her career, calling it a "shockingly offensive" assumption during a BBC Radio 2 interview in October 2025. "That's not why people get married, so they can quit their job," she said. She also credited Kelce's own passion for his career as something that connects them. "He loves what I do, and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music. That's the coolest thing about Travis."
The couple announced their engagement in August 2025 with a joint Instagram post showing Kelce on one knee, captioned simply: "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."
