Celebrity siblings flying under the radar isn't unusual — the Olsen family, the Skarsgårds, and the Hemsworths have all had lesser-known relatives mistaken for someone else. But few cases are as close a match as Aaron and Shawn Ashmore, identical twins who've spent decades in Hollywood being mixed up for a single actor.
Two careers, one face
Both brothers have been working since the 1980s, starting out in commercials after their mother took them along to casting calls as kids. Since then, both have built extensive careers, appearing in more than 50 film and TV credits each.
Aaron is known for roles in Smallville and Warehouse 13, along with a film alongside Emma Watson called Regression. Shawn's credits include playing Iceman across the X-Men franchise, Lamplighter in The Boys, and a role opposite Bruce Willis in 2018's Acts of Violence. Because both have leaned toward similar genre projects, casual viewers have often assumed they're watching the same actor pop up everywhere.
Coin flips and casting confusion
The mix-ups started early. Speaking to Us Weekly, one of the brothers explained that as children, the pair were regularly put up for the same commercial roles, and when casting directors couldn't decide between them, they'd resolve it by flipping a coin to keep things fair to both boys.
Not the only twins to face this
The Ashmores aren't alone in this kind of mix-up. Dylan and Cole Sprouse famously split a single role between them as kids on Friends, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen did the same on Full House, both playing the same character. In all three cases, the sibling pairs went on to build distinct, successful careers of their own, despite the early confusion over who was who.
