Parton's niece, Lainey Mae Parton, shared a lengthy message on Instagram the day after the singer's funeral, describing the impact her aunt had on her throughout her life. She recalled feeling unconditionally supported by Parton from childhood, including when Parton helped fund her education at beauty school rather than questioning her decision not to attend college.
The heartbreaking detail at the centre of the tribute is that because Parton was never able to have children of her own, she poured that love into her nieces and nephews instead, treating them as if they were hers. Lainey wrote that Parton's inability to have kids only deepened the bond between them, saying she'd always been made to feel like she belonged to Parton in every way that mattered.
Laid to rest beside her husband
Parton has been laid to rest alongside her husband of 58 years, Carl Thomas Dean, in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville. Dean died in 2025 at the age of 82, and the couple's decades-long marriage was famously private, with Dean rarely appearing publicly alongside his wife despite being a significant influence on several of her songs, including "Jolene."
The pair met in Nashville in 1964 and married two years later, staying together until Dean's death. Parton described their relationship at the time of his passing as one where words couldn't fully capture the love they'd shared over six decades.
