Breaking Bad actor Luis Moncada has shared an emotional account of his final days with former co-star RJ Mitte, following reports that the actor died aged just 34.

Mitte, best known for portraying Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed AMC crime drama, reportedly died by suicide, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends and fans.

Now, Moncada, who played Marco Salamanca in the series, has opened up about spending time with Mitte shortly before his death and the concerns he had about his friend's wellbeing.

Speaking during an appearance on TMZ Live on Tuesday, October 13, Moncada became emotional as he remembered their final conversation.

Luis Moncada noticed something was different about RJ Mitte

According to Moncada, the two actors had reunited for a charity golf tournament just over a week before Mitte's death.

They subsequently attended a comedy show alongside another Breaking Bad cast member, Steven Michael Quezada.

However, Moncada said he noticed that Mitte did not seem like his usual self during their time together.

He described the actor as appearing unusually tired and sad, explaining that he seemed preoccupied with personal difficulties.

Moncada said he could tell that his friend was dealing with considerable pressure, although he chose not to reveal the private details of their conversations.

Hoping to lift Mitte's spirits, he invited him to attend the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta the following day.

Co-stars shared hot air balloon ride days before tragedy

The two friends spent time together at the balloon festival, where they took a hot air balloon ride and posed for photographs.

Moncada later shared footage from the outing on social media.

In one particularly touching moment, Mitte could be seen resting his head on Moncada's shoulder as the pair laughed together.

Following news of Mitte's death, Moncada posted the footage alongside photographs documenting their friendship over the years.

He captioned the tribute: "Rest in Peace RJ – I Love you Lil Brother ❤️"

The post reflected the close bond the actors had maintained long after Breaking Bad concluded in 2013.

Moncada breaks down recalling their final conversation

During his television appearance, Moncada became visibly emotional while discussing the last time he spoke to Mitte.

He explained that he had offered his friend somewhere to stay, inviting him to spend several days with him and his son.

Mitte declined the invitation.

Before they parted ways, Moncada asked him to promise that he would call once he returned home.

Sadly, Moncada said that phone call never came.

Reflecting on their friendship, he described Mitte as one of the kindest people he had ever known.

He also recalled how the actor had supported him through his own difficult period just months earlier.

Moncada said he had encouraged Mitte not to face his problems alone, emphasising how much he cared about him.

His account has offered a deeply personal perspective on the actor's final days, although the private circumstances surrounding Mitte's death have not been fully disclosed.

Bryan Cranston pays emotional tribute to on-screen son

Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White opposite Mitte throughout Breaking Bad, also shared his grief following the news.

The actor reflected on Mitte's determination and professionalism during their years working together.

Mitte, who was born with cerebral palsy, became widely recognised for his acting career and his advocacy for people with disabilities.

Cranston remembered how he approached the demanding filming schedule with commitment and refused to allow his disability to limit his ambitions.

He also revealed that the two had exchanged messages just weeks before Mitte's death and had been discussing plans to meet for lunch.

Reflecting on the meeting that never happened, Cranston expressed sadness and uncertainty about whether spending time together might have made a difference.

Aaron Paul says he is heartbroken by the loss

Aaron Paul, who portrayed Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad, also paid tribute to his former co-star.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul described himself as heartbroken and at a loss following the news.

He expressed his love for Mitte and said he would be deeply missed.

Paul also used his message to remind anyone experiencing difficulties that support and connection are available.

The tributes from the cast highlight the friendships that continued long after the series became one of television's most celebrated dramas.

RJ Mitte's legacy beyond Breaking Bad

Mitte appeared in all five seasons of Breaking Bad, playing Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, the teenage son of Bryan Cranston's character.

His performance was widely recognised for its authenticity, with the character also living with cerebral palsy.

Beyond acting, Mitte advocated for disability inclusion and worked to improve representation in the entertainment industry.

His reported death at 34 has prompted an emotional response from those who worked alongside him and followed his career.

For Moncada, the loss is particularly painful because of the time they spent together so recently.

His memories of their balloon ride and final conversation offer a poignant reminder of the importance of friendship, compassion and reaching out to people who may be struggling.
